This was the first Studebaker Club Concours held at Fort Lytton, Brisbane, and being the first time using this venue there were things we can improve on to increase the numbers of visitors. Firstly, don’t have it on ‘Father’s Day’, or on the day they hold the ‘Bridge to City’ fun run as the main access road was closed until 9.30 am – bugger! Having said that, there were about 35 Studebakers in attendance, and 20 or so cars from other clubs. Thanks must go to the other club I’m a member of the ‘East Coast Muscle Car Club’, who did a fantastic job of the catering - great job guys and gals. Best burgers and dogs I’ve had at a car show, and not only my opinion.
But overall it was a great day, and I’m not saying that because my ’47 M5 Stude pick up came 3rd overall, and won ‘People’s Choice’, on ‘ya Fred'. I was also the Australian Debut of ‘Wendy-Jo’ the ’41 Buick Sedanette from California, and my ’64 Daytona from Indiana.
I managed to show five cars that day, the ’41 Buick, ’47 M5, ’51 Studebaker Starlight, ’62 GT Hawk, ’64 Daytona. Getting drivers was a bit of an issue, but managed to press-gang the right number – many thanks to my beautiful wife Svenja, (who I’m sure didn’t mind driving Fred the M5). Roland drove the GT Hawk, I’m sure he hated that ;-) Lastly Lucas, who finally, after a few false starts found second gear on a LHD car, with the column shift on the RHS of the column…..a brain teaser no doubt. You guys all did really well, many thanks.
